The Monday Playlist: Why Don't We, Aonair, Saint Nothing and more
The best songs from last week right in your inbox
Another week, another raft of new songs I’ve hand selected for you to consider for your playlists or whatever way you listen to music. A couple of notable album releases, including JB’s ‘complete’ edition of Justice and Newcastle’s finest Sam Fender dropping his second LP.
(I acknowledge that its Tuesday, yesterday just got away from me, I'm sure you get it.)
Here is the playlist, hope you find something you like! Thanks for subscribing and happy listening.
Think Twice by Aonair + Caoi De Barra - a huge, dreamy, glittery disco pop banger to kick it off, a lot of brilliant little moments in this one e.g. when the music drops back and hones in on the vocal, the silky saxophone, the final crescendo - far and away one of this week's best new releases
Rollerblades by Blake Rose - love Blake, his latest EP is upon us featuring this stunning little tune, one of the best indie pop boys of the moment if you ask me, the build in this one is great
I Just Got So High by Gabriella Cohen - a delightfully jaunty song this one, highly infectious and fun, probably shouldn't point this out but the rhythm is very similar to the I've Got a Brand New Combine Harvester song
Nikes by Julia Wolf - great bit of trap pop here, Wolf had such a great deadpan vocal for this kind of song, a rising star for sure
Hailey by Justin Bieber - the Biebs (sorry) as mentioned above has released the ‘complete’ edition of his most recent record Justice, which he clearly didn’t think could happen without another quite lovely ode to his wife: ‘The only thing I'm certain of/We'll be diamond when our golden days are done’ - cute, right?
Angels by LP - A big brilliant pop ballad this one and no, that's not Bebe Rexha singing
MAMMAMIA by Måneskin - the Eurovision champs now worldwide phenomenon are continuing sate the global appetite for real rock music, this one is, feisty, high octane and pretty damn good
Made a Vow by Millie Turner - Millie Turner turns it out again, some great bassy pop here, a real talent
Atlantis by Noah Gunderson + Phoebe Bridgers - Bridgers has such an undeniably nice voice it's impossible to stop it from taking your breath away when it hits at the right time - which this gorgeous duet will
Numb by Patrick Jean - more brilliant pop courtesy of one of my favourites from last year - it's all very echoey and dancy and full of great vocals and lyric clichés and bass and everything you could really want in a song like this
Bus Ride (feat. chloe moriondo) by Rxseboy - another lovely, albeit sombre, bit of bedroom pop from Rxseboy with lyrics to break your heart. In the vein of coffee for your head
Circles by Saint Nothing - my personal friend and confidante Saint Nothing has released their third single and I’m delighted to say it’s their best yet - introspective, angsty and a a great hook to boot; have been singing this one for days
The Leveller by Sam Fender - Geordie beat poet Sam Fender is back with his second album, this was the lead song funnelled out on release day and much as I miss his blue-eyed soul, pre-fame pop-leaning ways, this stadium ready indie rock anthem is not to be sniffed at
Open My Eyes by Shibashi + Candi Staton - a big funky disco pop tune, brilliant vocals, what's not to like? A banger
Thriving by UPSAHL - a short and impactful bit of pop, but you cannot tell me this wasn't directly inspired by Olivia Rodrigo’s Brutal, ok?
Love Back by Why Don’t We - new wave boy and music at its very best, easily their best one since Fallin’
