The Monday Playlist: Kacey Musgraves, Adam Melchor, Haley Reinhart and more
The best new songs from last week, delivered straight into your inbox
It’s a bank holiday and I’m for once technically on holiday, but I’ve done the due diligence that is listening to all of last week’s most notable new track and picked out the ones I think are the best.
Before that, I’d like to flag up four new albums that came out last Friday that are worth a spin: Becky Hill and CHVRCHES (who get a look in here) and from Maisie Peters and Halsey (who don’t, purely because I’ve not had a chance to listen to them in full yet). Check any of them out if you’re looking for something beyond this weeks standout songs.
Ok, without further ado, here are my must-listen-to-songs that came out last week with a word or two on what to expect - hope you find something you enjoy, and thank you for subscribing!
Oh, and here’s the Spotify playlist
What A Damn Shame by Adam Melchor - you’ve not heard the catchiest song to come out last week? what a damn shame
My Heart Goes (La Di Da) (feat. Topic) by Becky Hill - incredible its taken this long for a full length Becky Hill album, lots to enjoy including this banger
Just My Luck by Charlie Collins - sounds like the opening song/the mid-movie turning point song that will be playing over a romcom coming to your screens in the near future
California by CHVRCHES - wasn’t anticipating a very good album from CHVRCHES, but here we are - California is a particular standout for me
Stitches by good problem - another angsty pop punk song? don’t mind if you do
used to you by Grace Davies - a decent, weepy, astronomical-pop outing from one of X Factor’s (RIP) recent alumni, the build on this one is excellent
One Night by Griff - not content to giving us a great debut album already this year, Griff just keeps on giving with her excellent breed of pop, a solid tune
Roll The Dice by Haley Reinhart - Haley Reinhart is the best artist your probably not listening to - a genuine treat for your ears, this one will take your breath away
justified by Kacey Musgraves - lead single from the new Kacey album is a grower, teeing her up for a second AOTY Grammy I reckon
star-crossed by Kacey Musgraves - the taster track from the album/film, if you haven’t seen the video, you absolutely must
Too Much by Matt Simmons - this one is just a bit of fun, can’t argue with it really
Someday by OneRepublic - first OneRepublic track in about a decade that’s actually been quite good, Ryan Tedder hasn’t quite lost it yet
The Way I Love You by RuthAnne - RuthAnne has an incredible, slightly polarising, vocal, and she really shows it off here, huge
Burning Bridges by Sigrid - wasn’t sure about the Sigrid sophomore run, but this one is a grower, really build into something spectacular and demands repeat
Cool by Twinnie - a really nice bit of country pop
Boomerang by Yebba - after recent criticism Mr David Stevens at her ‘erasure’, I am including the new Yebba song, which is really quite good has some excellent vocals on it, definitely worth a go
