The Monday Playlist: GAYLE, Cami, Tones And I and more!
The best songs from last week right here in your inbox
Hello! Perhaps it was the sun that made every song sound like magic or perhaps it was just a wonderful week for new music - whatever the reason, there are 20 new songs out in the past seven days that I am bringing to you for your consideration on this gorgeous Monday.
Before I get to this week, I’ve been clearing out my main playlist from a lot of last year’s hang-ons to leave an elite selection of 2021’s finest in my current rotations, always a tricky process because when do you *really* move on from a song? The one fruit of that small labour has been rediscovering songs that past-me deemed main-playlist worthy but hadn’t spent a lot of time with, specifically Pink Ferrari by Zach Hood (who coincidentally has a new song out this week) which is a real hidden pop gem from last year.
Alright, that’s all I needed to get off my chest - a lot to get through so I’ll get to it. Thanks for visiting my little corner of the internet, it’s wonderful to have you here and as I ever happy listening and I hope you find something new to add to your own playlists!

Personality by Becky Hill - it's so wonderfully refreshing to hear Hill stepping away from her EDM pop banger lane and delivering something where she just sings, and boy does she sing
EL PEOR by Cami - a banging little pop tune from one of Chile’s biggest pop stars, the way her voice curls around it is so so good
Shockwave by Eline Noelia - high octane pop, great to run to, excellent vocals, a perfect rush of a song
Out Yonder by Elle King - the growl to King’s voice is so good and it's out in full force here, one of the most accessible, talented country artists of the day surely
Out of the Shadows by Ely Eira - when the strings came in on this one I gasped out loud
luv starved/sleeping with my friends/e-z( feat UPSAHL + Blu DeTiger) by Gayle - I quite liked Gayle’s breakout song but I was reserving full judgement on her until she delivered something fuller and I'm pleased to report that her new EP more than delivers on the pop-front - it's a great little collection and I think these three are all well with worth a listen: luv starved has a great rise to it, sleeping with my friends has a little bit of Katy Perry about it, and e-z features the very talented UPSAHL
Honest by Hudson Taylor + Gabrielle Aplin - a lovely loving pop duet it's that cute and simple really!
I Hope You Never Fall In Love Again by KiD RAiN - a joyful little post-breakup fuck you song, 'i hope every guy you meet is a loser/I hope they meet your best friend and the choose her' is truly lethal
I’m Not That Girl (Anymore) by Leadley - an excellent bit of pop-punk, the sound of the opening verse on this is *chefs kiss*
Light Me Up by LYRA - this is for some animated film called Riverdance and it's all very folksy and fun and 2008 Florence and the Machine and then at the 2 minute mark it really cranks it up ten notches, it will have you feeling ✨energised✨
maybe (feat. Bring Me The Horizon) by Machine Gun Kelly - I have just learned that Machine Gun Kelly is playing in Glasgow the day after my birthday so that's that sorted, cannot get enough of this weird skinny heavily tattooed white man doing his pop-punk think
Anything But Me by MUNA - another perfect sadpop cry-your-heart-out anthem from the best in the business
Let Her Remember by Peter McPoland - what an impeccable, vocally beautiful ballad, just Peter and the piano, a real stunner
Happy Fucking Birthday by Rhys Lewis - after two years of covid-tainted birthdays I really felt it when Lewis sings the ‘Happy Fucking Birthday to me'
WTF by Sasha Alex Sloan - Sloan has never been one to mince her words and this truth persists: ‘Am I here for a reason or 'cause my parents were drinking?/Sometimes I got a hard time, hard time believing in Jesus/If there's a Heaven above us then why can nobody see it?’
Remind Me by Tom Grennan - I guess at this point I'm just a Tom Grennan fan, this was released just as I took his last banger off my running mix, what a perfectly-timed replacement
Eyes Don’t Lie by Tones And I - Toni is such an incredible vocalist and this is not spoken about enough, she sounds so good here, but the greatest triumph of this song is how 'Eyes Don't Lie by Tones and I' really rolls off the tongue
never knew a heart could break itself by Zach Hood - your next favourite pop boy Zach Hood is here with an excellent ballad, the chorus on this is to die for
