The Monday Playlist: Foxes, Cynthia Erivo, Lil Nas X and more
A selection of new music coming right up
It’s still Monday (just) and do I have some new music for you or what! Special shout out to the Daughtry, Cynthia Erivo and Lil Nas X albums which dropped last week. Ready for some songs? Here the playlist, happy listening and thanks for subscribing!
Nocturnal by Aaron Smith - a gorgeous little piano pop ballad to kick off - Smith’s voice sounds excellent, the way he pushes it in the latter choruses is sublime
Older by Alec Benjamin - Charlie Puth and Ryan Tedder co-wrote on this rapid-lyric-boasting pop song about age anxiety
Superglue by Birds of Tokyo + Stand Atlantic - quite a good little chorus on this one, even if 'A little wine and some superglue to plug this hole in my heart’ is probably not a medically advisable procedure
We Look So Good by Chaz Cardigan - delighted to finally be getting some new music from Mr Cardigan, a good little slice of alt-pop from one of my 2020 favourites. Have to assume that percussion moment is an homage to Work This Out from High School Musical 2
You’re Not Here by Cynthia Erivo - as you can see here, future EGOT recipient Erivo has such a captivating voice, it feels like more than we deserve to have a whole album of her vocal talents. This one, a letter to her estranged father from the new record, is gorgeous
Evil/Somebody by Daughtry - need a hit of 'authentic' rock music to balance the overwhelming amount of pop punk that's resurging? Look no further than the new Daughtry’ record, Evil and Somebody being the immediate standout tracks, great to hear that Chris hasn't destroyed his voice with that phenomenally gritty vocal of his
Sister Ray by Foxes - an excellent bit of high-octane, disco-fantasy pop from pop's most underrated star. This one is huge
Therapist by Jeremy Zucker - some real pop honesty coming through on Zucker's latest track about being unable to cope with being someone's unofficial therapist
Who’s In Your Head by Jonas Brothers - more of an album filler than a lead single but today isn't the day I turn my nose up at new Jonas Brothers music
Partycrasher by LILHUDDY - more pop pink for your playlists, unsurprising to see a Travis Barker writing credit on this one
THATS WHAT I WANT/TALES OF DOMINICA by Lil Nas X - Lil Nas unveiled his provocative, unapologetically-queer debut record, sonically not my thing, but I'm a fan of the man behind them and these two are my standout tracks
Sex For Breakfast by Mike Taveria + Allie X - a fun little pop duet, not sure what it's all about but it has some deep thrums and satisfying harmonies
Rats by Pillow Queens - some very alt rock about not being a rat? Distinctive vocal really sells this one
you and me together is a problem by remy + Jutes - a nice finisher, feels like a bedroom pop remix of Sum 41’s In Too Deep
