Yeah I know it's Saturday not Monday, I'm having a week alright? Plus when I was shortlisting songs for this roundup I was sitting at 25 and couldn't face the write up (the 12 I settled on far a more reasonable number for you) I was just distracted by the new Adele song & going to a gig by two of my favourite artists of all time so my bandwidth for new music was low.
But you're not here for my excuses, you’re here to discover some new tunes, so I'll shh and let you get on with it, and will be back in your inbox on Monday with even more new songs to check out. Until then, happy listening!
Here’s the Spotify Playlist
IDONTWANNATALKTOYOU! (with renforshort) by 347aiden - best new song this week, solid and short and really really good, renforshort comes in and ties it up at the perfect moment
Just a Notion by ABBA - best new ABBA song yet, huge nostalgic vibes on this on
Spike The Punch by Alex Lahey - a fun little rush, great build, great indie-rock chorus
No Bad Days by Bastille - a sombre addition to the Bastille cannon, but there's a good bit in this one that sounds like they’re about to go into the drum bit from In The Air Tonight
Searching by KAWALA - the ‘oh me oh mys’ on this one are cute, a nice little bit of indie-pop
Hey! by Lea Heart - a really fun pop song about being hung up on someone and just wanting the tiniest scrap of acknowledgement that they've not completely forgotten about you
Soaked by LÉON - there's something about the tone of LÉON’s vocal that makes me stop and listen, every time she comes on my ears perk right up - I can't be alone in this
Halfway by Mimi Webb - pop’s next big thing dropped her EP and it's really quite good, you can really tell she's on the cusp of it all can't you? This one is a finale song if ever I've heard one
Christmas Kinda Sucks by Peach PRC - a good pop tune, but one that begs the question: if it's an anti Christmas song but uses lots of Christmas-related iconography in the lyrics is it also therefore a Christmas song? Answers on a postcard please
Tears by Peg Parnevik - a great little pop song, really comes at you with its pace
Alarm by The Score - once again I'm mad at myself for how much I enjoy this loud senseless screamy trash genre of music, but it's important to be authentic to yourself, and that vocal has me by the throat
Come Back Home by Stan Walker - when the gospel choir kicks in from the off you know you're in for a good time - Stan’s vocal really is something special on this one, the falsetto moments are stunning
